Welcome to billygilhooley.physio — a place where you’ll find practical advice, honest clinical insights, and the latest in physiotherapy research.

My name is Billy Gilhooley, and I’m a physiotherapist based in Preston, Victoria. I created this blog to share what I’ve learned from years of hands-on clinical work — not just theory, but real-world treatment that’s helped thousands of people move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing what they love.
This site is for anyone seeking clarity in a noisy industry — whether you're a client, referring practitioner, or fellow physio. While I treat patients exclusively at Specific Physiotherapy Preston, this blog gives me space to go deeper — into how I think, what I do differently, and what actually works in the treatment room.
🧠 A Bit About Me
I’ve built my practice around evidence-based treatment, precision, and purpose.
My qualifications include:
Master of Physiotherapy Practice
Bachelor of Health Sciences (Major in Human Anatomy & Physiology)
Diploma of Remedial Massage
Certificate IV in Hypnotherapy Practice
Before opening Specific Physiotherapy Preston, I spent four seasons providing soft tissue treatment to elite athletes at the Hawthorn Football Club. That experience refined my understanding of performance, pressure, and recovery — but it also taught me that every client deserves elite-level attention, not just athletes.
Now, I apply those same standards to everyone I treat — whether you’re a tradie with a busted shoulder, a new mum with back pain, or someone managing long-term symptoms through the NDIS.
🎯 My Treatment Style: Focused, Evidence-Based, and Results-Driven
You don’t need a degree to know when a session is working — you can feel it. My style is clear and simple:
Assess what’s actually going on
Treat the specific structures involved
Give the right input to create change
Move toward a long-term solution
No one physio treatment is the same. I use a combination of manual therapy, joint mobilisation, dry needling, and exercise prescription, depending on what your body needs — not what’s trending on social media.
What separates my work isn’t that it’s “hands-on” (many physios are) — it’s that it’s purposeful.
Every session is delivered with a plan, not a routine. My job is to help you walk out of each appointment feeling like progress was made — and with a clear path forward.
🏥 What You Can Expect When You See Me
All sessions are conducted at Specific Physiotherapy Preston, located at 149 Plenty Road, Preston VIC 3072. I treat a broad range of clients, including:
Acute and chronic pain presentations
Sports and overuse injuries
Post-surgical recovery
NDIS clients requiring ongoing physiotherapy
Office workers and everyday movers
I don’t waste time. I treat with intent, communicate clearly, and make sure every appointment adds value to your recovery. Whether it’s one session or a longer rehab journey, I’ll give you straight answers and focused care.
📚 What You’ll Find on This Blog
This blog isn’t a sales pitch — it’s a resource. Here’s what I’ll be covering over time:
Clinical insights into common physio techniques
Breakdown of new and relevant research
Thoughts on chronic pain, patient outcomes, and rehab trends
Advice for clients navigating injury, post-surgical care, or pain flare-ups
Professional commentary for students and health peers
It’s an extension of how I practise: practical, honest, and always results-focused.
